Everyday Mobility as You Age
8 Week Yoga Program for Everyday Mobility
You notice it in specific places. A low armchair takes a shove. Socks take a plan. The shoulder check when reversing turns into a whole body operation. Nothing hurts exactly, and something has clearly changed.
Our yoga teachers built this eight week program around the five movements that decide how an ordinary day goes: getting up, bending down, turning, reaching overhead, and walking. Every pose says which one it belongs to, and you time yourself in week one and again in week eight.
Twice a week, plus ten minutes on other days. Four sequences, eight weeks. Twice a week is not a suggestion here: the largest trial in this field ran once a week and found nothing at its primary endpoint.

Move · Weeks 1 to 3
Three Weeks, and a Number to Beat
Establish the five movements and write down where you are starting.
In week one, time yourself standing up from a chair five times and write the number down. That is the measurement this whole program is built around, it is the outcome the research improves most reliably, and you will use it again in week eight. The first three weeks then work through all five movements at a manageable size.
Build · Weeks 4 to 6
Longer Holds and the Front of the Hip
Load the legs properly and open what sitting has shortened.
The middle three weeks hold the standing poses for ninety seconds and raise the sit to stand from five repetitions to eight. It also adds a lunge, which targets the front of the hip: years of sitting shortens it, and a short hip flexor shortens your stride without ever announcing itself.
Integrate · Weeks 7 to 8
The Movements Named, and the Test Again
Recognise each pose in the day it belongs to, and measure what changed.
The last two weeks name what each thing is for: getting out of a car, reaching a high shelf, putting on a coat, checking the blind spot, picking something off the floor. At the end of week eight you time five sit to stands again and compare it with week one. In the trial that measured it, that test got three and a half seconds faster over twelve weeks.

Why these poses and not others
The Everyday Mobility as You Age practice guide explains what each pose does and why it belongs to this goal. It also carries the safety notes and every study this program is built on. Read it if you want the reasoning rather than the plan.
