Phase 1 · Wake the Foot Up

Part of the 6 Week Yoga Program for Ankle Stability and Balance

10 Minute Yoga Sequence for Ankle Stability

Short enough to do on the days between, which is the point. An ankle relearns through frequency, not through length.

The balance studies behind this program all ran three sessions a week for six weeks, and none of the sessions were long. Twenty to thirty minutes was the standard. What mattered was that the ankle got asked the same questions often, not that any single session was thorough. This is the version for the days between the longer ones, and for the weeks after the program when you want to keep what you built.

Wann hilfreich

For the days between the main sessions, and for any morning when the ankle feels stiff before you have walked on it. Ten minutes, standing, bare feet, a wall within reach.

Physical effect

Calf, dorsiflexion and the arch of the foot, in the smallest dose that still counts.

Control

One deliberate single leg moment, which is the thing that actually transfers to a kerb or a wet step.

Frequency

Ten minutes done four times beats forty minutes done once. The research on this problem is unusually clear about that.

Ten minutes, standing

No floor work, no props beyond a wall. Short enough that you will actually do it.

Berghaltung

Feet hip width. Three points down on each foot, then weight forward, back, out to the edges and home.

Weight shifting on a stable base. The first level of the progression, and the one worth repeating forever.

Integration

On the days between the main sessions through all six weeks, and twice a week afterwards for as long as you like. Chronic ankle instability comes back over years rather than being fixed once, so a short repeated practice is the right shape for it.
