Chronic Hip Stiffness and Limited Hip Mobility
8 Week Yoga Program for Hips That Have Gone Stiff
Getting out of a low chair takes a moment. Crossing one leg over the other works on one side and not the other. After an hour of sitting the hip feels set rather than sore, and putting your socks on has quietly become a manoeuvre.
Eight weeks to get movement back in every direction a hip has, and enough strength around it that the movement holds when you stand up and walk.
Three practices a week, one longer and two short. Four sequences in total, each repeated for a whole phase. Eight weeks, because that is the length the effective programmes in this research actually ran.

The idea
A stiff hip is rarely stiff in every direction. It is stiff in the ones nobody asks it to move.

Why these poses and not others
The Chronic Hip Stiffness and Limited Hip Mobility practice guide explains what each pose does and why it belongs to this goal. It also carries the safety notes and every study this program is built on. Read it if you want the reasoning rather than the plan.
