Category: Extensions
Extensions are asanas in which you gently stretch muscles and joints. They promote suppleness and mobility. Breathing in Extensions has a relaxing effect: you supply your muscles with oxygen and release tension.

VAYUS
Each of the five Prana Vayus plays an essential role in our body and mind. They move and direct energy in specific directions, each with its own special area of influence and function. Mountain Pose has its own unique effects on these vayus.
Udana Vayu (Upward-Directed Energy)
▼
Tadasana activates Udana Vayu through the lengthening of the spine and the conscious uprightness of the body. The upward-directed energy helps stabilize the posture, strengthen concentration and foster a feeling of lightness and alertness.
Prana Vayu – Expansion of Consciousness
▼
Through the open and relaxed chest in Tadasana, Prana Vayu is stimulated, which supports the intake of breath and energy. This energy enlivens the entire body and ensures harmonious breathing that synchronizes body and mind.
Vyana Vayu – Expansion and Opening
▼
The even distribution of body weight and the conscious activation of all limbs in Tadasana stimulate Vyana Vayu. This energy connects the various body parts with one another and fosters a feeling of wholeness and expansion throughout the entire body.
CHAKRAS
Muladhara Chakra (Root Chakra)
▼
Tadasana fosters the connection to the earth through the conscious alignment of the feet and legs. This posture strengthens the feeling of stability, safety and rootedness, which energizes and balances the root chakra.
Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra)
▼
Through the conscious activation of the abdominal muscles and the alignment of the torso, Tadasana stimulates the Manipura Chakra. It fosters self-confidence, inner strength and determination and supports the radiance of personal power.
Ajna Chakra (Brow Chakra)
▼
The attention and mindfulness required in Tadasana activate the Ajna Chakra. It supports clarity, intuition and mental alignment and helps focus the mind and cultivate inner wisdom.

KOSHAS
Annamaya Kosha (Physical Body)
▼
Annamaya Kosha represents the physical body. Tadasana helps align the spine, strengthens the leg muscles and fosters an upright posture. It brings the feet into firm contact with the earth and stabilizes the body.
Pranamaya Kosha (Energy Body)
▼
Pranamaya Kosha refers to the life energy. Tadasana fosters a balanced flow of prana throughout the body and helps open the energy channels.
Manomaya Kosha (Mental Body)
▼
Manomaya Kosha represents the mental state. Tadasana fosters concentration and grounds the mind. It helps clear the mind and foster a centered, calm way of thinking.
Vijnanamaya Kosha (Intellectual Body)
▼
Vijnanamaya Kosha stands for deeper insights and intuition. Tadasana invites you to feel into yourself and perceive the body consciously, which leads to a deeper understanding of your own body.
Anandamaya Kosha (Spiritual Body)
▼
Anandamaya Kosha is the deepest level of being, joy and bliss. Although Tadasana appears simple, consciously assuming this position can evoke a feeling of peace and bliss.

DOSHAS
Vata
▼
Tadasana fosters movement and lightness, which stimulates the Vata energy. The conscious alignment of the body and the upward lengthening can increase the feeling of freedom and creativity, which raises Vata. People with high Vata should take care to perform the pose calmly and grounded to avoid overstimulation.
Pitta
▼
The clear alignment and focus in Tadasana strengthen the inner fire and goal-orientation, which stimulates Pitta. This posture supports self-discipline and concentration, which strengthens the fiery element of Pitta. Pitta types should practice the pose with a relaxed breath to avoid overheating.
Kapha
▼
Tadasana activates the muscles and fosters lightness and uprightness, which counteracts the heaviness and sluggishness of Kapha. The posture enlivens the body and creates energy, reducing Kapha dominance. Ideal for Kapha types seeking more activity and vitality.

Key Information for Correct Execution

Common Mistakes
A common mistake is a hollow back.
Variations
Mountain Pose is usually taught with the feet closed so that the big toes touch. An alternative approach is the wide stance, which allows more stability and a better posture.
Physical Effect
Alignment of the Spine
In Tadasana, a natural and upright posture is fostered. Practicing this pose helps align the spine and create an awareness of a neutral spinal position. Consciously activating the back muscles and lengthening the neck can help correct posture problems and related complaints that are often caused by prolonged sitting or standing.
Strengthening the Support System
Although Tadasana is often regarded as a resting position, it nevertheless requires the activation of numerous muscles. From the legs to the feet and the core muscles, everything is engaged to keep the body stable and upright. This conscious activation strengthens the supporting musculature and fosters improved body awareness, which in turn reduces the risk of muscle tension and injury in everyday life.
Anchoring and Grounding
Tadasana teaches how to ground yourself through the feet and create a solid base. Consciously distributing the weight over both feet and activating the arches can help correct foot problems such as flat feet while strengthening the foundation for many other asanas. This grounding ability can help foster a feeling of stability and safety in daily life, especially in uncertain or stressful situations.
Effects on Psyche and Emotions
Anchor of Awareness
Tadasana lays the foundation for attention. With the feet firmly anchored in the floor, it reminds you to be fully present and grounded in the moment.
Strengthening Self-Worth
Through the uprightness of the spine and the opening of the ribcage in Tadasana, a posture of strength and self-confidence is fostered. This sends the brain a powerful message about your own self-worth and dignity.
Harmonizing Opposites
Tadasana brings opposites into harmony: the earth pulls downward while the head and spine strive upward. This balance between heaven and earth fosters a feeling of harmony and inner equilibrium.
